Where's the Chill? FEB 2015
Where's that Chill Coming From?
So, it's February in Florida. Over the last two weeks, the days are warming up a bit, but the nights remain very cold at least until the next cold front rolls through. Our minds begin to drift off to warmer times... Then, we recall last January 's first ever ice storm along the Gulfcoast. So, I pulled out The Old Farmer's Almanac forecast for Winter 2014-2015 to get some insight. This renowned resource expects our winter to be another cold one with cold, dry conditions for the Florida panhandle. So, where is that icy, cold chill coming from as I curl up on the sofa?
The Culprit are those Drafty Windows and Doors
Let's look at the facts to warming up our home interiors.
- Drafty windows and doors can account for 10-25% of your heat loss.
- Aluminum windows can cost an additional $540 annually to heat your home (as compared to vinyl windows).
Reconsider your Home's Energy Efficiency
Here are some energy tips for windows and doors from the U.S. Department of Energy:
- It might be more cost-effective to replace inefficient windows than to try and improve their energy efficiency.
- Look for ENERGY STAR® labeled windows. All custom windows at Majors Home Improvement exceed the ENERGY STAR® requirements.
- Consider Low-E window coatings -microscopically thin, virtually invisible metal or metallic oxide layers deposited directly on the surface of glass - control heat transfer through windows with insulated glazing.
- Seek a solid constructed window frame. All windows at Majors Home Improvement are fusion welded with a multi-chambered vinyl main frame and sash. These features will maximize your window's efficiency.

Happy Valentines Day from the Majors Team!
Love is patient, love is kind, it isn't jealous, it doesn't brag, it isn't arrogant, it isn't rude, it doesn't seek its own advantage, it isn't irritable, it doesn't keep a record of complaints, it isn't happy with injustice, but it is happy with the truth. Love puts up with all things, trusts in all things, hopes for all things, endures all things.
