KNOWING WHEN TO REPLACE YOUR WINDOWS

A window replacements project can reduce your homes energy costs, improve your comfort level & enhance the overall appearance and curb appeal of your home. However, there are a number of factors to weigh before you purchase new windows. Consider the following:

Appearance: The style of your home will determine the type of window best for you . This will include frame options & choices including color, as well as tint & glazing.

Fit: As windows age, their components wear & deteriorate, causing them to shrink & become brittle. The more compromised the fit, the more air filtration will seep unto your home affecting your comfort & energy costs.

Frame: Frame materials deteriorate with age becoming corroded& eventually rotting. This deterioration beyond surface will require window replacement to protect you & your home from the elements.

Glazings: The solar heat gain through your windows can result in rising energy costs during both heating & cooling seasons. Glazing currently available in the new windows will reduce 80% solar heat gain, while allowing 90% of the suns rays it pass through, making both heating & cooling of the home more energy efficient.

Operability: Operability of older windows is jeopardized by time. Aging components often swell, warp & bind. The cost of replacing old parts, & the inconvenience of dealing with such, make replacement windows a smart and cost effective choice.

If your considering if window replacement makes sense for YOU, call HEATH today to discuss your OPTIONS!!

GREEN TIP OF THE MONTH

Unplug It!: Unplug appliances not in use or when you leave for extended periods of time. This will reduce the amount of energy you consume.

Question: At a cookout and someone dropped chewing gum onto our sidewalk. After a day of sun and stomping the gum got worked into the sidewalk pretty well and we can't get it up. Do you know of any removal tricks? - Justine Voigt

Answer: Egg Whites - The white of an egg will remove chewing gum from most things, including your hair. Put the white of an egg on the gum and leave for a couple of minutes. Then work the gum out. Vinegar - Saturate the gum and it will actually dissolve. Heat the vinegar first for faster results. WD40/Penetrating Oil - Simply spray the sticky gum with WD40 and work it into the gum. The gum will come out easily .

It's Time to Head Back to School

Don't blink! The kids will be headed back to school before you know it. And if you're like most people, it will sneak right up and bite you! The good news is you still have some time so start crossing a few things off the to-do list to make the preparation a little easier this year. Here are some tips to help you out:

Clear Out the Closets - Before you get the new school gear you need to get rid of the old stuff. This is the perfect step to do in advance. Not only will it give you more space for the new stuff, you'll have a better idea of exactly what you need to get when you go shopping. Take anything that doesn't fit anymore and donate it to the Goodwill or Salvation Army.

Look for the Sales - Now that you know what you need to get, you can start keeping an eye out for the back to school sales. They happen every year, and if you don't wait until the last minute you can sav

Bedtime! - If your kids have developed a more relaxed sleeping pattern over the summer, it's best to try and slowly get them back on a school schedule. This doesn't always go over well with the kids but if you make bedtime earlier in small increments, it won't be such a huge adjustment when the first day rolls around.

First Day - To help make things go smoothly, check over everything the night before. Do they have all their supplies together and in the backpack? Have they decided on their clothes, and are they laid out and accessible? Double checking these two things will help ease the stress when morning rolls around. It will also help you get them to the school on time for their first day!

Don't forget to stash a little note in their lunch or backpack. It will be a welcome surprise during that hectic first day.
